The sun was setting, and the shadows of the trees were beginning to stretch across the track. A few minutes ago, the stadium had been filled with students cheering, but now the sound of their voices had faded away and the only sound was the distant hum of traffic from the nearby highway.

Monica, a senior in high school, had just finished her final lap of the day. She had been running around the track every day for the past month, trying to improve her time and her muscle tissue. She knew it was the only way she could make the varsity team.

As she walked to the locker room, she felt the strain in her legs, her muscles sore from the intense exercise. She wasn't sure if she had done enough, but she had to keep trying.
